thank you

for all the birthday wishes, I thank you. truth be told, I've been a little blue. it was, after all, my last birthday as a thirty something. I nearly cried over the title of the new list. 39 things to do before I turn 40. wow. I am staring down the barrel at forty. how is that possible? no really, how? typing out those last two numbers nearly killed me. but the new list, it's a good one. perhaps my best yet. and the red velvet cake, it was off the charts good. spectacular even. but the best part? the roller skating. definitely the roller skating.

  2. As I approached 40 my birthdays got a little depressing too. Now at 41 it's not so bad but geesh, leaving that decade behind was difficult! So I feel your pain. :)

  5. happy belated birthday! i hope 39 is the best year yet for you and that you accomplish everything on your list.

those of us in our mid-to-late 30's need to remember that 40 doesn't mean what it used to! i remember in my teens and even my 20's thinking that my life would pretty much be over by 30! how insane is that? and yet all of the coolest shit happened to me after 30.

i'm sure the decade ahead will bring you tons of fantastic goodness that you can't even imagine!

  10. Oh man, I can't tell you how INCREDIBLE your 40s are gonna be. I am 44 and I lost 50 pounds, got an amazing job, fell deeper in love with my kids, stopped taking crap from a lot of people, set boundaries, gave myself permission to say a lot of "No", saw more of the world, etc., etc., etc.

    Dive in--it's awesome!!!

  14. I am 50. You are just a child.

You are also very beautiful with your high cheekbones and ethnic looking face. So you are lucky. My sisters and my mom all died before their prime years.

I understand the sadness but you are blessed woman.

Now go out there and take some polaroids!

  18. Here is one thing that worked for me when facing a milestone birthday and feeling old. I would look at pictures of my mother at that same age and think how young she looked then. It kind of gives you a comparison or reference point.
Forty can be fabulous. I've been there.
